Interested in joining our Board?
As our Washington State Hands & Voices chapter grows, so does our vision to increase the diversity of our state chapter committee members, volunteers, staff, and board members. We are a dynamic group of parents, professionals and community members working together in a supportive environment to increase supports to families of deaf, deaf-blind and hard of hearing children throughout our state. Those seeking positions on our board, committee or paid staff must go through an application and vetting process in order to maintain our support to families without bias. Meetings are held every month with the option of participating in person or via video conferencing. Open to the public, our meetings provide ongoing sign language interpreting.
The function and purpose of our board is to provide oversight and inspiration to the organization’s activities and operations. In addition, to:
- Ensure that the organization is responsive to the perspectives and views of the membership.
- Give direction to the organization’s short and long term planning efforts.
- Provide public awareness about the organization and its mission.
- Generate collaborative connections between organizations, public and private agencies, and other state Hands & Voices chapters, in order to influence any necessary systemic change.
- Ensure that all goals and activities of the organization are based upon the philosophy of respect or family choice of communication language and modality.
- Actively support the organization through direct financial contribution and/or voluntary in-kind service.
- Assist in the ongoing recruitment of potential Board members and/or needed service sectors to support the organization.
- Give guidance and approval to the organization’s budget.
- Participate in committee work to move strategic goals forward.
